Throughout all time there have been explorers who have stepped outside of the prison of everyday life to encompass greater experience of what it is to be human.

Many being in religion, but step out into an unknown that is called “God” or angelic realms. This step into what has been described as oneness of all, a unity in which God is all and the person is entirely effaced, annihilation, surrender, love, death – called by the Sufis “die before death.” At this vantage point, of that first step outside the confines of time, space, place, ego identity, the seeker is an annihilated and effaced point of sheer awareness, a locus of percept. It is said God sees through her eyes, hears through her ears, and so forth. Yet the complexity of this process can’t contain its subtlety or ultimate meaning.

It occurs beyond religion and philosophy. “Mysticism” describes it, or “Sufism” which is the experiential study of states. Expanded and contracted consciousness. Functioning in and through such states. My wunderkabinett holds a small collection of symbolic objects that refer to such states.

The laying out of these objects in differing configurations with various songs and concentrations is an orchestration of states that can create new longer-lasting patterns in our cosmic atmosphere, leading to new or alternative manifestations. Such new forms are attuned to the internal logic of these magical patterns.

All new forms are birthed one way or the other – either through the interdimensional moire formed through the aggregation of events – seen and unseen, or through the direct manipulation of the roots of form by the wise working with symbol, breath or other means.

The engagement of a true metaphysician begins with the development of what we call “the magical personality.” This is an evolution of persona and character that demonstrates all the virtues of the wise. It is necessary to hold the forces in check so the work can be done, without instability of emotional disturbances. Love in its purest form is a great stabilizer and is harmonious with magic actions whereas other intensities not balanced in love can destroy as much as create.
