Clarifying

The work becomes more clear

The only way to navigate through the quantities of information (and disinformation) was to fully embrace the imagination and activate it as a research tool. Imagination was an active component of the process of evaluating and assessing the materials. A conventional narrative would not do the trick, being impossibly restrictive, not to mention reductive. Would it then be presented as an allegory? Or a chronology?

The Book of Knowledge became framed simply as an imaginative encyclopedia consisting of stories, essays, and sketches that focused on some sort of wonder—not only the wondrous objects stored in the cabinets but also the process of discovery itself and its purpose in unfolding knowledge.

The mystic perceives from her own perspective as well as that of others. Here, the perspective, much like nature, flows and varies. Through the prism of this accumulation of knowledge, each object or event can be observed from a point of wonder or from the viewpoints of an observer, an elder of some kind, a novice, or perhaps a wise teacher. In this way, form is determined and discovered by the imagination rather than by the rational mind. The work is situated outside chronological sequencing to honour its emergence beyond the day-to-day.
